Fast adaptive wavelet packet image compression
Wavelets are ill-suited to represent oscillatory patterns: rapid variations of intensity can only be described by the small scale wavelet coefficients, which are often quantized to zero, even at high bit rates. Our goal is to provide a fast numerical implementation of the best wavelet packet algorithm in order to demonstrate that an advantage can be gained by constructing a basis adapted to a t...
متن کاملAdaptive Wavelet Packet Image
We present a technique for lossy image compression based on the joint-adaptive space and frequency decomposition of images. The algorithm adapts to image content by both developing wavelet packet bases for separate areas of the image and by segmenting image subbands as needed. The elements of the expansion are a two-channel lter bank and a complete and disjoint binary segmentation system. We co...
متن کاملWavelet Based Texture Synthesis
This paper presents a new algorithm for synthesising image texture. Texture synthesis is an important process in image post-production. The best previous approaches have used non-parametric methods for synthesising texture. Unfortunately, these methods generally suffer from high computational cost and difficulty in handling scale in the synthesis process. This paper introduces a new idea of usi...
متن کاملTexture Classification Using Discriminant Wavelet Packet Subbands
This paper addresses the issue of selecting features from a given wavelet packet subband decomposition that are most useful for texture classification in an image. A functional measure based on Kullback-Leibler distance is proposed as a way to select most discriminant subbands. Experimental results show a superior performance in terms of classification error rates.
متن کاملFast Wavelet Packet Image Compression
Current standard algorithms for storage and transmission of digitized images start with a compression method and ends with a decompression method for recovery of a good replica of the original picture. Unfortunately any recipe leading to significant compression rates involves some loss of information, and as such has to be matched to the nature of the image, and to our tolerance of error. The m...
